I dont think there is a real way to classify Slipknot. They're heavier then Nu-Metal but not quite Black metal. MFKR seemed almost experimental. The S/T album was very heavey and emotion filled (except Spit it out is a Nu-Metal song). Iowa was very dark (my favorite Slipknot CD). The new cd was more mainstream and not as angry in my opinion, still good, but not Slipknot to me.

The band that introduced me to the harder side of rock. When albums are reviewed for their impact on music, be it defined to a genre or music in general, this band does posess one, and that being their self titled release. Fast, interesting, clever, and very innovative. This was the introduction of something that made Marilyn Manson look relatively calm. But the reality is that this music, though not trite or brilliant, falls somewhere in the mainstream median. Corey Taylor is an excellent frontman whose lyrics, at times, are intriguing and clever, but pale when lit next to acts such as Tool's Maynard James Keenan. They certainly put on a show that keeps fans addicted, and rightly so, as, when it comes to theatricality, Slipknot takes what Kiss and Alice Cooper started to the extreme. They are remarkable in a few areas, one being Jordy Jordison's drumming speed, which though maybe not the fastest, has to come damn close. Frequently subject to criticism, due in part..

What I have always liked about slipknot is that every album is different in a good way, there not going to have anything hold them down. I'm glad they dont give a shit what the fans want them to write, you should never write songs for the fans just for yourself and if they dont like it oh well they dont have to buy the album. I can't wait to see what they throw at me next!

Opeth I think you will like the new album coming out. I can honestly say there's only 2 tracks that aren't that good. Well really make that 1, the other is a guilty pleasure song. But Gematria and Sulfur are fucking SICK! Snuff is a welcome surprise and is a very very good song.

It's the image that i can't stand about Slipknot though, i'm not really into the whole dance around in crazy outfits though. Still, so long as they bring out the good songs i'm ok. Well thats good to here skatterbone, but sadly I wont receive this for another 12 days :(. It sucks when your out in the middle of the ocean, but I will be getting this Down's new cd and a Porcupine Tree DVD so when I get mail it will be with a smile on my face.

Also Celtic its funny that you mention that because I saw an interview once when they werent that popular and when the guy saw all nine of them he said what the fuck are you a metal band with back up dancers. It was very funny Corey looked pissed, then I imagined Mick in the back dancing on stage.

I usually have to listen to a album 2-3 times before I know if I like an album or not, to get the flow of the album. After a few listens to the albim, I throughly enjoy All Hope is Gone. I catch myself singing number of the songs in my head throughout the day, not just the radio play songs, other songs as well. Good album.

I must say All Hope Is Gone is a great album.

Not up to the level of Iowa, but a step above Slipknot and Vol. 3 in my opinion

It has it's Stone Sour influences in a couple songs and that's great, Snuff is good song and offers something different from the other brutal songs.

I really don't like this band just because they have 9 people... and wear masks... and refer to themselves as numbers in concert... but I do have to say some of their songs aren't that bad. But 9 people in one band, especially if it's this type of band, it's too many. 6 is pushing it, although some say keyboards are necessary.

And for the person who said their new CD has Stonesour influences, it's because Corey Taylor and (I believe) one of the guitarists are in both bands, ya timmy.

...but anyway, I said I didn't like them, but some of their songs have definitely grown on me. I used to like a few of their songs, and definitely still do... it's kind of a guilty pleasure, even though I don't willingly listen to them... my roommate does, and I hear them, and some of their songs are pretty decent, especially from the new CD (because he's been listening to them the most). I just hate that they have 9 people, although my roommate always tries to justify it.

slipknot are fakes, they say what they do is for their fans but it seems to me that they only want the fame....they fell under the same curse as korn, mudvayne, Marilyn Manson, Metallica, and Eminem. All were individual and awesome until they saw the cash flow and conformed to todays youth and what not. I dont see how thier new cd is a combination of Iowa with anything and it IS NOT their heaviest album ever. that title was taken by Iowa. and they arfe not metal. they are rock at best.
