It's a bit of a mistery who this Mr Jones is, but it's most likely a guy named Jeffrey Jones who worked for a magazine called " the Village Voice'. Jeffrey Jones had askes some stupid obsolete question to Dylan and Dylan was mocking him with "Mr. Jones! Gettin' it all down, Mr. Jones?"

There were many references made to this song, most notably The Hitkchikers Guide to the Galaxy, Ed Edd and Eddy, Futurama and The Simpsons. This was one of the most important protest songs in the 60's and there is an urban legend that this song wasn't actually written by Dylan but rather by a high-school student named Lorre Wyatt.

This was, and perhaps still is, Dylan's most ambitious song to date. Over 11 minutes it's full of absurd metaphores and weird lyricism. The interpretation are widely scattered but a lot of people argue it's probably about the Holocaust.
