Figgkidd may, obviously, be an Eminem knock-off, but he's a damn fine entertaining one. Figgkidd finds himself in the middle of one of Australian Hip-Hop's biggest controversies, rapping in an American accent. Most Aussie rappers prefer to rap in their natural accent, but those who adopt an American accent are often ousted, on the grounds that it's a compromise to gain fans in the US. This topic is covered though in the song "Most Hated", featuring MC Losty, another artist who raps in an American accent.

But if you look past his accent (ofcourse for Americans it wouldnt matter), he can be damn entertaining. With songs like "Fairytale Master" taking a sick look at children's stories, you can't go wrong; with lines like:

"Called Snowwhite, because of her habit
snorting the coke with Peter the Rabbit."

"Sleep in they're bed, they'll take off your head.
Tear off your limbs and then leave you for dead.
They'll scare you off like Goldilocks,
I'm serious when I tell you to not play with bears."

Ofcourse, 'This Is Figgkidd' is a re-release of 'What Is Figgkidd?', and it's pretty obvious this was released to jump-start his career in the US, with inclusions of Proof from D12, and the artwork, which looks like an average American hip-hop release, compared to "What Is Figgkidd?"

The first helping of Figg that I got, like most people, was with "I Gotta Know", featuring Tech N9ne and Red Foo. I was convinced immediately, and bought "What Is Figgkidd?". Right now I'm listening to the album, at present "Only 19" is playing, this song is definately a highlight on the album, and as the title suggests it bases itself on the original Redgum hit. Though, apart from the chorus, its a totally different song, as opposed to The Herd's version, which stays true to the original Vietnam war theme.

Highlights on this album would be: Most Hated, Only 19, Outspoken Outcast, Fairytale Master and Out 4 Tha Count. I will say Figgkidd would be an excellent stepping stone in getting into Aussie Hip-Hop, as (from an American's point-of-view) he doesn't have a thick accent, and the lyrics are more generic as opposed to general Down-Under themes that The Herd, Hilltop Hoods, Downsyde or other artists down this way adopt.

As I said this particular release is a re-issue of "What Is Figgkidd?", definately pick this one up, as it has the addition of 3 more songs and a DVD including recording sessions and videoclips. But if you're really into Figg, pick up the original if you come across it, just to complete your collection.

Not the best rapper out there, but he is a good listen.
