This is a band I've avoided for years for some reason even I can't remember. What a mistake that was. MY friend said this album was a must own especially since I've been on a huge metal high for the past month. I have no regrets starting with this Metallica album but I can honestly say this has started a whole new road for me to travel muscially, and that road is Metallica Boulevard.
This album provides you with some great thrash, some great ballads, and some amazing shredding. Now I don't know what else to say about this band that hasn't already been said but I am still pretty new to Metallica and I can honestly say I am in love with what I've heard so far (this album along with Justice for all and Ride the Lightning) and so far everything has been SO good.
From open to close this album has not one song that is skippable and worth a full listen to. It starts out with a great opener in Battery which is a nice fast paced song and it was only 2 minutes into this one specific song that I determined this album was gonna be great.
The second song, Master of Puppets, has always been one I've heard on the radio and man it is a great one. Great shredding, just overall and amazing song and it was this song that made me want to expand and get this album. As great as this song is, it does its job and that is pulling you in.
Orion is possibly the best instrumental I've ever heard. So many solos in one song my head almost exploded.
Other great songs:
Sanitarium
Leper Messiah
All the other songs are great, powerful, and straight metal. I regret avoiding these guys for so long and I'm glad to say this was the first cd I ever heard from them and what a dang good way to start. But what can be said that hasn't already been said?
If any of you guys are like me and looking to get into metallica then this is the album you wanna start with. I can't stress it enough, this album is great.
