[Lead - Steer]
Works of art, painted black
Magniloquent, bleeding dark
Monotonous palate, murky spectrum, grimly unlimited
Food for thought, so prolific
In contrasting shades, forcely fed
Abstraction, so choking, so provocative
A canvas to...
Carcass

Foxy Shazam, what the hell happened? With each release, they have drifted farther and farther away from the band I fell in love with. Introducing is a thing of the past. And The Flamingo Trigger? Ha! It's a different band now. I fully understand that bands progress, change, and adapt over time but THIS?
'The Church Of Rock And Roll' goes for more of an arena rock sound. The songs really have a larger than life 80's sound to them and stays closer to a more standard form of rock 'n' roll than the band has ever done before. The craziness the band once embraced has been completely sucked out and so has a lot of the originality they possessed. While the songs are catchy, with constantly repeated chorus' over and over and over, it gets boring really quick. There are a few songs that I do like though, despite my constant bitching. 'I Like It' is the closest thing to an older sounding Foxy Shazam song there is. And while, it's a soft little ballad, 'Forever Together' is definitely worth a listen as is 'I Wanna Be Yours'. The rest of the songs are just blah, they're just there to fill the album. Personally this album is a HUGE disappointment in every possible way.
I really hate ripping an album this way, especially with it coming from a band that I loved to no end at one time. But this is my honest opinion and I'm not going to sugarcoat it either. The album sucks, take it or leave it, but I'm sticking to that.
