Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends

like my fathers come to pass
seven years has gone so fast
wake me up when september ends

here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are

as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when september ends

summer has come and passed
the innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends

ring out the bells again
like we did when spring began
wake me up when september ends

here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are

as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when september ends

Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends

like my fathers come to pass
seven years has gone so fast
wake me up when september ends
wake me up when september ends
wake me up when september ends

Song Facts - Show All?
The song eventually became a tribute song to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, and sound bytes were added from various news coverages to the song. A live version of the song, recorded on September 3, 2005 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts was released soon after and dedicated to the hurricane's victims.

They were right, this is like a grown up Good Riddance... I love the chorus... "here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are" I cried the first time i heard this. I still get emotional. Soo good.

I don't know how this can be compared to TOYL; it sounds nothing like it. But this is an amazing song as well, showing the demise of Whatshername and St. Jimmy's relationship. Apparently it's about Billie's grandfather's death as well, which I think is amazing that Billie can represent it so well. Beautiful song, but a little reptitive

yeah the only real comparison you can draw to time of your life and this song is the fact that it starts off with an acoustic guitar and even then they're rather different. anyways, this is a strong track that repeats itself a bit too much towards the end, but either way it's great. love it when the guitars come crashing down.

Great song, but it doesn't have that chilling message that Good Riddance had. Good Riddance was a masterpiece that shouldn't have ever been played freely on the radio and mtv.

It is. He said before he had never wrote anything about it, and even though this is to do with the story of the album, you can tell it's really about his grandfather's death (I think it's his grandfather's)

I've been a fan since I was 13, now I'm 23. Every album they've put out has really been better and better. This album is one of the best albums I've ever heard. This album will be one our children will listen to in the future and think our generation was so cool. This is a landmark in our generation of music. I'm really happy this band finally gets the recognition they deserve.

although this is a good song and is a good video, i feel that gullable fans will agree green day are a political band because they made a video about a guy going to war, ooooo! scary! this album has one political song on it, yet it is seen as a political album...WHY?!!!

Hey legend, you're right about everyone labelling green day a political band but most of the songs on this album are speaking about their views on politics (Holiday, american idiot), just because it's not obvious doesn't mean they don't express the speciic opinions.

I find the video takes so much away from the song. Whenever it comes on I just want to change the channel, because I don't want to site there for ten minutes watching the couple talk. Once you've watched it more than once, it gets old and repetitive, which is sad because it is an alright song; nothing like their older days, but still decent.

Ashs... no its not. It's a rock opera, listen to the rest of the album. It had nothing to do with Bush... its because St. Jimmy just got dumped by whatsername and hes trying to rid himself of memories of her.

Anyone who doesn't live in this country has NO right to say thatabout my president. I'll give the nod to anyone who voted here in the states to criticize, but shit, man, who the hell are you? Get a damn life. UNBELIEVEABLE SONG. Green day pulls it off again. I'm kinda pissed that it got popular, but whatever.

My theory on most of the songs on this cd is a relationship between St. Jimmy and Whatsername. I may be wrong but from listening to this cd and this cd only for the past 2 weeks I've noticed a connection.
