Covered As: Time by David Gilmour
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

Great song. I love the vocal melody and the guitar in this song. The intro definitely builds up the intensity. The lyrics are great.

It always scares me at the beginning because it's so quiet before the track then all the clocks come in.

it doesn't matter what i'm doing or where i'm at, but everytime i hear the beginning to this song, it catches me off guard and makes me jump... other than the jumping, this song is just... (fill in the blank)... the lryics, the music, it's everything... brilliant lryics... i can't stress that enough...

What can I say that hasn't already been said about this song? Oh! Okay. I love how the Breathe reprise comes in after he has nothing else to say. Almost like changing the subject.

He's using a major but I can't for the life of me figure out if it's C major scale or B... that's why the solo is so unmistakeable, a lot of other solos utilize the pentatonic.. it's so great!

What more is there to say that hasn't already been said? It's an amazing Floyd song - one of their best, if not THE best.

The solo on this song is probably the one most influential to the way I play. I love Gilmour's nonlinear brand of mood-conscious leadwork.
