Wish You Were Here by Wyclef Jean
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl, year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have you found? The same old fears
Wish you were here.

This is a very special moment for me *pulls out kleenex* and I just want to thank all of the people out there who believed in me, and pusehed me on. Happiness, Cobain, Legend, Froggy, and many others that I shall remain nameless. And I also want to thank all of the people who argued and argued with me, because if it wasn't for them, i would still need at least another 200 comments to get to where i am. *wipes eyes* So once again, this is the best song recorded of all time, and thank you.

Metallica? Oookay... the bands are totally different. And the Metallica solos (back when they still played solos) are not as challenging or as good as the Floyd ones. All Metallica does is trill some notes on the first three strings past the twelfth fret. Believe me, when you start to play this song you will appreciate it so much more. The solo is loaded with slides, double stops, note bends, and the lyrics are very good as well. It's overall an awesome song.

This song has got a lot of covers but no-one even compares to the Floyd version.
The Worst cover is by Radiohead.
A little bit better is the Fred Durst version.
Then A bob Dylan version which is pretty ok. And so is the Grateful Dead version. The only ones that really made an own version of it and did a good jod were Pearl Jam. So from good till bad: 1Pearl Jam, 2 Grateful Dead, 3 Dylan, 4 Fred Durst and dead last Radiohead. Although the Pearl Jam verison is ok, It's total crap compared to the original. Also because Floyd wrote this with a reason which was a very sensitive one. So I think people should stop covering this and leave it to the masters!!

The solo in this alot different than what most people think. If you actually listen closely, it's David Gilmour singing with the guitar. It just shows how good of a vocalists he really is. the intro is what really does it for the song.

You mean Welcome to the machine? It's a brillaint song and I will tell you why. The song starts off kinda vague but then comes a acoustic guitarpart that's just to beautiful to imagine. After that come some brilliant vocals and then comes my favorite part. A syntesizer. But The riff in that part seems to build up and I think it's amazing. Then another part of great vocals and then the outro with the awesome syntesizer. Really together with this song and Comfortably numb It's the best song they ever did!!

With both of you, your words will take me a step further into Pink Floyd. And to answer Cratic, it is indeed somewhat a hard-to-come-by talent for a guitarist to do a solo and sing at the same time. I can imagine that because I can't even sing and play rhythm so with that information, it really helps for me to appreciate them even more. Thanks!

And to Cobain, it is really an awesome song, really. After playing it a couple of times over and over again. I really like the outro part. I can sort of relate to it and imagine all sorts of things in life. Somewhat very nostalgic. However, i still find the song pretty plain, and the vocals monotorious. But still, it's the song develops very being a very plain song into a very amazing outro. Hmm.. is there any stories or meanings behind it?

Truthfully, to me, welcome to the machine is the weakest song on the album. It's just my opinon, but I find that it just doesn't stand out as much as the rest of the cd. It's still a great tune though. It's just that this cd is so God damn amazing that one of them have to be the worst, and I find that Welcome to the Machine is the worst on it. As for the story with it, to me it's about a boy who dreamed about being a rock star his whole life, and after working for so long, he finally got a record contract, and they're welcoming him to the industry.

Welcome to the machine looks something new from Floyd though. Almost a song different style from the rest of 'em. I can relate that it is just more than being a boy being a rock star. I think the boy is being "controlled" or something by another person.

This song is so far from overated. To me, it's the best they released, and I'm one of the biggest Floyd fans you'll find. Their is a reason that so many people like this song, and it's because it's just so damn good. It's as simple as that. just because you might like other songs more than this one doesn't mean that it is overated. I know that that has just been said, but I feel asthough it should be said again. This song is an absolute masterpiece and should be heard by all. Everything just comes together so perfectly in it; the lyrics, the intro, Davids singing and guitar plying; everything. This is just the epitome of perfection to me.

Cratic, the song has more comments than 95% of other songs on the site. It's one of Pink Floyd's less astounding songs, even if it is a great song indeed. To you, it might be perfection, but from a critical standpoint, Pink Floyd have much stronger opii. Here's an interesting note, too: The number of comments for this song before I post this is 96. That's a sexual position where each mate farts on the others' head.

And I bet your mom has saggy tits, but so what? It's not the fact that it doesn't have a guitar solo as good as comfortably numb, or an epic masterpiece that brings you more emotions at once tahn you can imagine such as Echoes, but it's the sheer beauty it brings with such a simplistic sound (which is actually complicated as hell to play.) This song (like many others Roger has written) is a lyrical masterpiece, and deserves every bit of praise it gets. It may not be your favorite Pink Floyd song, but it's far from overrated. Overrated is trash on MTV and Much Music now that takes no talent whatsoever to play, and yet gets more praise than every Floyd song combined.

Relax, man. No one's aggressing here. I'm simply stating I think that it's overrated. For someone who's as vocal as you are(Being what, the top commentator on the site?), you should be able to respect that. As far as I'm concerned, it just lacks the musical depth that other Pink Floyd songs have. I'm not saying it sucks, I still like it, but in my opinion, there are far greater Pink Floyd songs.

Such a great tribute to one of rock n roll's saddest stories. RIP Syd Barrett.

i really do look at Floyd in two different eras, this is by far a standout of the post Syd Barret years. I love this song, i don't usually pick favorites and could never choose between this and comfortably numb, they are both amazing songs
