I think I’ve become like one of the others
I think I’ve become like one of the others
I think I’ve become like one of the others
There was a frail syrup dripping off
His lap danced lapel, punctuated by her
Decrepit prowl she washed down the hatching
Gizzard soft as a mane of needles
His orifice icicles hemorrhaged
By combing her torso to a pile
Perspired the trophy shelves made room for his collapse
She was a mink handjob in sarcophagus heels

Bring me to my knees
Read the sharpened lines
All my arms, bled me blind
Faucet leaks in shadows
Spilling from morgue lancet
Caressed your fontanelle
I’ve sworn to kill every last one
Every last one
Panic in the shakes of the wounded
Panic in the worms
Onto the floor
And out of your mouth
Out of your eyelids
No there’s no light, in the darkest
Of your furthest reaches
No there’s no light, in the darkest
Of your furthest reaches
All your dreams, splintered off
Leech by leech on this catafalque
Anyone will tell you, yes anyone
Chance had me setting a trip wire alarm
Your mother flirted with disease
When she skinned that costume by it’s navel strings
Panic in the shakes of the wounded
Panic in the worms, onto the floor
And out of your mouth out of your eyelids
No there’s no light, in the darkest
Of your furthest reaches
No there’s no light, in the darkest
Of your furthest reaches
No there’s no light, in the darkest
Of your furthest reaches
Shock lest shackles free you
Volt face cons
abandon you again
I won’t feel not this time
Brick by brick, the night eclipsed
Pricked by cuticle thorns
Dried the sleep on nursery slits
Into this life I’m born
Heaven’s just a scab away
I’d like to see you after just one taste
Sink your teeth into the flesh of midnight
Night forever more, let them see it has begun
The others I’ve become
If you should see the dice, charmed with
It’s snaked choked eyes
You’ll wear the widows weeds
Because they’re just your size
Behind the snail secretion, leaves a dry heave that absorbs
A limbless procreation, let the infant crawled deformed
A bag replaced the breath of these suffocating sheets
And now when the craving calls
I’ll scratch my itchy teeth
Come on and sing it now
Sink your teeth
Into the flesh of midnight, night forever more
Sink your teeth
Into the flesh of midnight, night forever more
She fell for the whispers, sister flooded deaf tears
That night tore a river, in her baron womb mirror
And his multiple sons with their mandible tongues
Set crucified fires to petrified homes…let it burn
And the owls they were watching
And the owls didn’t care
Then the owls came a knocking, placenta in their stares
They will feed on all the carnage, leftover from the flood
And in the corner of their eyes, fled sister L’ Via
Now the pieces went floating, reflecting all at dusk
Conceived from the stabbing, was Vismund Cygnus
Twenty five wives in the lake tonight
Raw bark in the water of the marble shrine
Twenty five snakes pour out your eyes
Yeah the icepicks cumming on the marble shrine
Twenty five snakes are drowning
You can’t bend your crooked arms or fold your punctured proof
The air is growing cold and there’s nothing you can do
Soon there’ll be no gauze, inside the confessional
Only rows of crows, defrocking every breath
And one day you’ll remember
Behind the melting cones, you always had a family
In the burial of your home.
I’ll peel back all of my skin
Peel back and let it all run
Brick by brick, the night eclipsed
Pricked by the cuticle thorns, dried the sleep
On nursery slits into this life I’m born
Havens just a scab away, I’d like to see you
After just one taste
Sink your teeth into the flesh of midnight
Night forever more, let them see it has begun
The others I’ve become
No there’s no light, in the darkest
Of your furthest reaches
No there’s no light, no there’s no time
You ain’t got nothing, your life was just a lie

if the 30 minutes actually went somewhere, i'd love it. but it DOESN'T. it's just another way for the band to seem artistic and creative when they're just trying SO HARD to be that way. fuck THAT shit.

I'm listening to this song for the first time right now. I am currently at 12:30 minutes, and still interested. This is probably my favourite song on Frances The Mute.

I agree with Vash on this one. Although I find a lot of parts in the song pretty awesome it doesn't really go somewhere

I partially agree with Vash. There are a lot of great parts within the song, but, as Vash said, it's just another way for them to seem artistic.

they're not TRYING to be artistic and pretentious, the ARE artistic and pretentious. they don't care about the audience at shows, they think about the music first, which is why they only play like 3 songs in 50 minutes at shows. they've said this so many times.

It's a good 'nothing' song... It goes for a whole 30 mins with just about nothing to say.

It is split up in the the five parts on the actual album so it isnt a full 30 minutes. You can listen to the song at different parts. This is a fucking sweet album. A job well done. I wouldn't give a shit if they played this live. I would just watch in awe.

This song is awesome. I love how these kids who pay for a CD think they've suddenly become masters of what "art" is. The Mars Volta do what they want to, leave em alone about "Pretention" until you've got a band and fix all the things you say they do wrong. It's that easy friends.

stupid shitheads should look up words before using them back at me. one month later, the song is still lame. i mean really, dont get me wrong, it starts off with a bang just like the other songs, but overall it's just stupid. if you take the whole album into consideration it's just a bunch of good ideas with shitty execution, great instrumentation with no songwriting skill to back it up. you people don't seem to realize that it's a lot harder to write a concise, three-minute pop song than it is to write a half-hour jam fest that doesn't really result in anything more than random time changes and a lot of silence. and the album's only broken up into parts so that they'd get paid for making a full album. omar said that himself, so blow me. they're all one song, just broken up into different sections for the sake of the label paying them for making a full album as opposed to an EP. they're all part of a whole either way, and the overall product just isn't that impressive to me. the end.

Vash has a point here. I could point out at least 10 places that could do with a trim. It's quite annoying, as there are many gorgeous moments....overall, a good but not great conclusion.

Well when you put it like that Vash, I agree. But I think that's why they cut it like they did into tracks (though all of us who bought it on Ebay got jacked out pirated copies I think) So you could skip the parts you didn't wanna here. Like Miranda That Ghost... , my favorite song on the album, I skip the first four minutes and last four minutes (manually, because of my Ebay copy :( ) And they divided it like that on a real version of the album. You could skip the Vade Mecum and Con Safo sections of the song and it's still a badass track if you don't want the rest. I think that's why they divided it like they did, not so they didn't get paid for an EP. Personally I usually listen to all the music (except on Miranda, that's not music, just noises) but that's because I never really sit down and focus on listening to music. I just do it as I work. I still can't agree with you on the pretention thing though.

They didn't split up the album JUST to get paid for a full album. Omar actually said they split it up so that the record company wouldn't come after them asking for another album. You're a dumbass.

Yeah man. Vash is right. Seriously. He's a genius. Pink Floyd did this shit too and look how shitty of a band they are. [/sarcasm]
If you aren't into the whole jam thing then don't listen to Mars Volta man.

I Don't agree with Vash anymore! this song does go somewhere! It has the catchy chorusses in the beginning and in the end they bring back the chorus. I love the jamming in betweem. The Guitarwork is amazing. Every last second off it. It's confusing how they wrote down the tracks on the album. some were devided into 4 tracks and yet I hear only one. I bought the album lately and it said 15 tracks while there were only 12. But Fuck that, the music is simply amazing!this album is one off the best ever made ever! Incredible song, incredible album, incredible band! Mars Volta Rule!

The Mars Volta made this song the length that it is to tell an epic story about (whatever) Cedric is trying to tell us through his writtings. This song does go somewhere...yes, think of it as a story...but in song.

If any of you read college radio magizine you would realize this song is about one of their friends who died. It does have a point vash, it tells a story of a life pretty much. At least thats what i gather from it. Its a great song, some parts are just a little to deep or maybe just too personal for us to get. Read up before you stick your foot in your mouth.

the rest of this album seems kinda insignificant after hearing this amazing journey of a song. The band plays at their best, pushing their limits and the limits of the listeners by telling this story of a song that needs to be told, whether you like it or not.

What an incredible finish. An epic ending to an epic album.

I love how they finish with a reprise of "Sarcophagi" from way back at the beginning of the album. It makes me wanna listen to the entire album again IMMEDIATELY.

Beautifully done.

I dont really understand those who say this song doesnt go anywhere. Do you say that because it ends with a part that was at the beginning of the song? because it goes all over the place and comes back home, which is somewhere. I think when you listen to this, its good to envision sitting there watching as they jam this out, because if they played this exactly like the album live, it would be one of the greatest experiences of my life.

no offense to the dude that posted before me, but if they played this the exact same way live, where'd the fun be in that. i love the mars volta for their musical genius and ability to improvise. which is why i like this song so much. this song was improvised. i think what sets them appart from other bands is this ability, and i think its the shit. and to anyone who says the mars volta gets old, they're the best band ever, so suck my dick.
