This shining city built of gold, a far cry from innocence
There's more than meets the eye round here, look to the waters of the deep.
A city of evil.
There sat a seven-headed beast, ten horns raised from his head.
Symbolic woman sits on his throne, but hatred strips her and leaves her naked.
The Beast and the Harlot.

She's a dwelling place for demons.
She's a cage for every unclean spirit,
Every filthy burden makes us drink the poisoned wine to fornicating with our kings.
Fallen now is Babylon the Great.

The city dressed in jewels and gold, fine linen, myrrh and pearls.
Her plagues will come all at once as her mourners watch her burn.
Destroyed in an hour.
Merchants and captains of the world, sailors, navigators too.
Will weep and mourn this loss with her sins piled to the sky.
The Beast and the Harlot.

She's a dwelling place for demons.
She's a cage for every unclean spirit,
Every filthy burden makes us drink the poisoned wine to fornicating with our kings.
Fallen now is Babylon the Great.

The day has come for all us sinners.
If you're not a servant, you'll be struck to the ground.
Flee the burning, greedy city.
Lookin' back on her to see there's nothing around.

I don't believe in fairytales and no one wants to go to hell.
You've made the wrong decision and it's easy to see.
Now if you wanna serve above or be a king below with us,
You're welcome to the city where your future is set forever.

She's a dwelling place for demons.
She's a cage for every unclean spirit,
Every filthy burden makes us drink the poisoned wine to fornicating with our kings.
Fallen now is Babylon the Great.

She's a dwelling place for demons.
She's a cage for every unclean spirit,
Every filthy burden makes us drink the poisoned wine to fornicating with our kings.
Fallen now is Babylon the Great.

Holy shit, this is A7X? A huge change from WtF, and a million times better. Glad to see them going for a more metal-approach now and straying from the -core genre, hope the rest of the album is like this!

This is pure shit...Shadows has lost it.... sounds like a mega man game (see below).... Shadows was once an amazing singer and screamer... now hes resorted to cheesy 90's modern rock vocal effects.. he sounds like STP on crack.... this is so retarded, I love how the chord changes went pure pop in the chorus.. What is this a Yellowcard song? ridiculous... TOO cheesy. VERY disppointing.

ok firstly Shadows blew out his vocals on tour so bad that he hasnt been able to get them back to the way that they were before, hence the different vocals, secondly, i can see so many fans saying they sold out after hearing this, thirdly i kidna agree with the "STP on crack" remark but i still can see the song growing on me

godDAMN!! This is fucking amazing!! I don't see how it could be considered selling out. It's still 6 minutes long with a huge fuck-off solo smack bang in the middle. And listen to those drums!! So, Shaodws can't scream. Big deal!! He has one of the best singing voices I have heard in modern heavy rock music, like EVER!! (Other than Havok, but ya know...) So nice one!! Fucking cool chorus too!

I personally detest this song. I can't believe they would change so much. I appreciate the new level of instrumentation. I feel that they have improved drastically when it comes to the instrumentation. However, they have taken a step in the wrong direction with the lack of screaming. I am highly disappointed in them. If the rest of the cd is like this song, I will NOT buy it, I won't even download it. M. Shadows is an excellent singer, but an even better screamer. This seems to be the trend lately, good bands redirecting their styles and putting out shitty songs/cds. I will give them one more chance when City of Evil comes out, but as for now, anything off Waking the Fallen is 1000x better.

I absolutely LOVE this song. I've only been an A7X fan for a year now, but I think it's really stupid to hate something they do because there's no screaming. That's just my two cents. I cannot wait until City of Evil comes out. In the meantime, I'll listen to Waking The Fallen.

He doesn't need to scream for the band to be good, but he doesn't even sing like he used to. The music itself is good, but Warner Brothers fucked up the vocals like I predicted they would. His voice has gotten worse and is not distinct at all anymore.

This song is different from their previous shit, there's no denying that. I can't say whether they've gotten better or worse, because it's a totally different style. People seem to like the Gothencore side of A7X more. I was kinda shocked when I heard this song, but I wasn't disappointed. The guitar tone is so much clearer (not muddy like Waking The Fallen) and the drumrolls and arrangements are fucking fantastic. M Shadows sound more perfect than anyone could ever sing. The chorus is not pop, it's just very punk, which they are supposed to be in the first place. They are punk metal, they're not even supposed to be hardcore, if you bother reading their site in detail. So, this song has grown on me, and better still, it's sing-a-long-able.

this song was pretty good, it's grown on me more since i first heard it. i'm not used to the vocals sounding like that, but of course Matt can't sound the way he used to since he got surgery on his throat. I liked the drumming, i could actually hear the bass, unlike on Waking the Fallen, and the guitars were cool, too. But it wouldn't be right to judge the whole album on this one song...

Just heard it. I can hear the STP on crack aspect, it also reminds me of DMC. The chorus is...odd, actually it kind of reminds me of "Streets" I am still torn as to wether or not I like this song though. I understand he had to change his voice due to the circumstance, but it almost sounds like he is trying too hard. I'm gonna have to hear the rest of the stuff before I can make an actual judgement though.

This is a pretty damn good song! It's definitely not the best on the album or the best they've ever done, but it's still pretty good. I really like the guitar work and the quasi-punk inspired chorus. It's got parts that remind me of the old A7X but it's a far cry from more "traditional" A7X. I like it though

Actually now I look at it, this track, wether it be good or bad (I personally think its great) is the perfect way to kick off City Of Evil. Think about it, its taking the traditional vocals and chucking them out the window, setting up what I think is the best album so far of the year. Sure, I miss the screaming, a lot, but I'm still in awe at A7X ability to make legendary albums, no matter what their sound.

They're so much better with legit singing, why do you think they're on the radio now? Dumbasses don't you realize that selling records and selling out shows is more important than screaming? Why do you think real deathmetal doesn't sell? Because chicks like regular singing with a little screaming here and there, like double bass.

SuperTom, you couldn't be more of an idiot. Music isn't about selling records. If you are in a band, please quit now. You'll just become another sell-out radio rock band.

As for A7X, my respect for them skyrocketed because of City of Evil. I love when bands try new things. And this is a very good, respectable power metal album. It's nice to see the band playing true metal music.

The band thing about this album is the fact that a lot of their idiot fans hate it because it isn't the same album as Waking the Fallen. Stupid mallcore kids.

Until then, it's just further proof that tasteless idiots like Invoc cannot handle change and would just love to hear the same shit over and over. Waking the Fallen was a manufactured, fake-sounding, angst-filled piece of garbage album specifically written to sell in droves to idiot Hot Topic kids. Nothing more, nothing less.

LMFAO I just read Mobius288's comment. How can you say this is anti selling out? They changed into a pop rock band... Its okay if you like it but jesus christ, this is the definition of selling out. They dropped thier routes, shit on thier old fans and became somthing they never were. The digression in thier talant and originality is pathetic. They are trendy sellouts who make music for a diffrent fanbase. One thats much larger and more profitable. Thus sell outs.

If you think this is pop rock, maybe you should have your head examined.
