Metaphor for a missing moment
Pull me into your perfect circle
One womb, one chain, one resolve
Liberate this will to release us all

Gotta
Cut away, clear away
Slip away and sever this
Umbilical residue
Keeping me from killing you

And from pulling you down with me here
I can almost hear you scream

One more medicated peaceful moment
Give me one more medicated peaceful moment

And I don't wanna feel this overwhelming hostility
I don't wanna feel this overwhelming hostility

Gotta
Cut away, clear away
Slip away and sever this
Umbilical residue
Gotta
Cut away, clear away
Slip away and sever this
Umbilical residue
Keeping me from killing you

Slip away and sever this

Keeping me from killing you

My favorite song on this CD by far. No, scratch that, my favorite song EVER. The lyrics may seem a bit disturbing, but their in fact beautiful, especially when Maynard sings. Amazing song.

Never thought of an unwanted pregnancy... it's a shame that you can't abort them after they've been born.. .some people on this site need it. Poopstickninja said he killed his mom to this song.

Tha song isn't about an unwanted pregnancy, it's about a dislike for his mother, but not being able to kill her because she birthed him

The most melodic and soothing song APC has ever done and possibly ever will do. The way the music and Maynard's voice blend and balance with each other is awesome. I love this one.

Ok, well, I'm usually known for being overly critical as a joke, I just get a kick out of seeing people overreact and become all "righteous" in their effort to prove me wrong. Anyway, I'm breaking character here and saying right now, stop taking what ANY artist says in their songs for face value. You can look up a word or get the artist to tell you what the song mean, but you have to figure out for youself what it means. The unwanted pregnancy angle really isn't a bad take on this song, in fact, it's very imagintive. Being able to reverse the roles like that, takes a keen eye. Just cause the name of the song is also the name of a Greek Mythological character, it doesn't mean that's what the songs about, it's just there to give insight. To inspire. I may do it to rile up the morons, but think for yourself, and don't tell anyone their wrong in their interpretation. It's just not cool.

well said, Lithium... one of the best parts about APC, and even Tool, is that the songs are for open interpretation. it's for the listener.

13th Step sold me on A Perfect Circle…I was determined NOT to download Mer De Noms and I didn’t, I finally got it. It is one of the most beautiful compilations of music I’ve heard in my entire life. This song seals it for me though. No matter how you interrupt it, the sound is the same. Maynard’s voice is so beautiful in this track that it almost brings me to tears. I sometimes wish I could thank APC for giving the world such great music.

The only APC song I've ever enjoyed more than Orestes would have to be Sleeping Beauty. They're my two favorite APC songs. So amazing.

I have to agree with agnosticsyndrome, APC is just one of those bands that can make you 'Feel', I don't know how else to describe it

What?! D< Evanescence should suffer for covering such a beautiful creation. I love this song. Hell, I love the whole album. It just mesmerizes you... it can get you out of any bad mood, I say.

By 'she', I assume you mean 'they'. And that cover was indeed surprising in that it mostly consisted of drunken idiot concert-goers screaming their lungs out.

This coming from a person whose name is "Absynth." I'm not seeing much of a big deal behind the whole Evanescence thing. APC has remade songs before, why wouldn't they let someone else remake one of theirs? And, there's a key term in there: LET. Evanescence can't just redo a song because they want to, APC had to give them permission. If they didn't see a problem with it, why do you?

I have a problem with it because I listened to it. And they don't need permission to do shit - it was an acoustic cover at a concert, acknowledged as being an APC song, it's not like they were re-recording Mer De Noms. Nice title by the way, 'TheHole' - poignant and meaningless all at once.
