Welcome to where time stands still
No one leaves and no one will
Moon is full, never seems to change
Just labeled mentally deranged
Dream the same thing every night
I see our freedom in my sight
No locked doors, No windows barred
No things to make my brain seem scarred
Sleep my friend and you will see
That dream is my reality
They keep me locked up in this cage
Can't they see it's why my brain says Rage
Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone
Build my fear of what's out there
And cannot breathe the open air
Whisper things into my brain
Assuring me that I'm insane
They think our heads are in their hands
But violent use brings violent plans
Keep him tied, it makes him well
He's getting better, can't you tell?
No more can they keep us in
Listen, damn it, we will win
They see it right, they see it well
But they think this saves us from our Hell
Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone
Sanitarium, just leave me alone
Fear of living on
Natives getting restless now
Mutiny in the air
Got some death to do
Mirror stares back hard
Kill, it's such a friendly word
Seems the only way
For reaching out again.

Fade To black
Best song on this album. The lyrics are very dark. You can compare this song with Fade to Black and One. They always make the fourth song on the album the best and most sensitive and ussually the name of the second song is the name of the album.

I don't think you can compare this song with song like fade to black and One because those songs are so much better then this one. Still this is one off the best songs on this album. This album is great but if you compare it with Ride the Lightning and The black album I do think this is the least.

This song can be easily anyone's favourite with 2 reasons- Guitar and Lyrics. 4 Solos were done in this song. 1 in the intro, 2nd 1 in the 2nd verse part. after that the ending 2solos. They did performed twice. Once i do not know where it is, the other 1 they did it at AM ring. The first 1 they did was called Cliff 'em all. Oh yea Cliff was still around at that time. Listening to this song is as good as listening to Cliff being around! And i would rate this as my 2nd best song perhaps.

I came back and decided to fill in some interesting background for this song. Metallica inadvertently "borrow" a musical idea from another band for their 1986 dark "power ballad". A song called "Rainbow Warrior" by the obscure NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) band Bleak House appears to contain undeniable similarities to this song.

An absolutely incredible song. Whether or not it is the best is debatable - I lean towards Master - but that is irrelevant. This song will change your life.
