Eye on the T.V. 'cause tragedy thrills me.
Whatever flavor it happens to be like..
"Killed by the husband",
"Drowned by the ocean",
"Shot by his own son",
"She used the poison in his tea
and kissed him goodbye".
That's my kinda story.
It's no fun until someone dies.

Don't look at me like I am a monster.
Frown out your one face,
But with the other.
Stare like a junkie into the T.V..
Stare like a zombie,
While the mother holds her child.
Watches him die.
Pleads to the sky crying:
"Why, oh why?"

Cause I need to watch things die... from a distance.
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies.
You all need it too - don't lie.

Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit?

We won't give pause until the blood is flowing.
Neither the brave nor bold, or writers of stories told.
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing.

I need to watch things die.. from a good safe distance.
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies.
You all feel the same so..

Why can't we just admit it?

Blood like rain come down.
Drown on grave and ground.

Part vampire.
Part warrior.
Carnivore and voyeur.
Stare at the transmitter.
Sing to the death rattle.

Lie (4x)

(Background news headline)

Credulous, divest your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men.
Pull your head on out.
Your head believes it give a listen.
Shouldn't have to say it all again.
The universe is hostile,
So impersonal.
Devour to survive, so it is,
So it's always been.

We all feed on tragedy.
It's like blood to a vampire.

Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies.
Much better you than I.

As convincing as the album art and some of the track names are, I'm convinced that not all of the information that has been "leaked" about this album is genuine. Wouldn't it be just like TOOL to screw with the fans? Whatever the case, I'm breathlessly awaiting this album.

didn't they release a fake track list and album cover right before lateralus came out?
anyways, i heard what is apparently their first single, vicarious, and they ripped off their own riff, the one from Lateralus. hopefully what i heard is a fake.

Never mind, I found it! I think it just may be the greatest Tool song yet. It has the melody and the complexity reminiscent of the Lateralus album, and at the same time a neck-breaking heaviness not seen since Aenima. Freaking awesome!

This reminds me of "The Planet is Fine" from George Carlin's Jammin' in New York. The lyric "Why can't we just admit it?" is very similar to Carlin's "Hey, atleast I admit it..." Tool used Bill Hicks for writing inspiration Aenima, so it wouldn't be strange if we later found out that's where Maynard got the idea from. Also, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be sarcastic (very unlike George Carlin's). I like this song much more than the shit that was floating around with this title. It's a little too familiar for me, though. They really hyped it up like they were going to go in a whole new direction. Sounds like Aenima and Lateralus. Oh well, I guess that's what makes them Tool.

@ Sunscrew. He ment the vibe on Emotive. I thought i sounded a bit A perfect Circle as well when hearing this for the first time. I realize now it's very Tool-like though. I think it gives of more of a Aenima vibe. The Lyrics certainly do. On Lateralus they went all spiritual while and Aenima they had stuff which was a lot more down to earth. This is a lot more down too earth as well. The lyrics aren't bad but after Lateralus I didn't expect Maynard to be writing so concrete anymore. It still carries some depth and they aren't annyoingly stupid or Emo (thank god). I like tool better in the spiritual way and I think this album can't top Lateralus for me but I is going to be one hell of an album that's for sure.

I think TOOL have more than well and truly stepped up to the mark... The syncopation and structure, the sound and the lyrics, It is crafted with a passion few bands display in this day and age. I don't care what anyone else thinks I believe they have raised the bar again. Sheer Genius and Musicianship. TOOL are nothing short of Master Craftsmen and if TOOL were a religion I'd join in a flash, Yes my opinion is one eyed but at least were dealing with music that has real substance to it, and not the corn fed garden variety tripe that is pushed in our faces relentlessly. TOOL will be our salvation.

I must say that I do hear some bits and pieces of past too albums, however, I am quite pleased with the result. Even if you are slightly disappointed with the similarities you can't disagree that even a song that sounds the same as others from Tool is better than any other shit that is out today. Tool is the only band that I feel truly captures the spirit of music that was alive in the past (1970's). Thank you Tool, your albums may be far apart, but you haven't let us down yet!

Most bands make there money from concert tours and not from cd sales. The record labels make the majority of the money from the cd sales while the band is provided a small cut. Hence the reason why you see a lot of bands/music artists that create there own record labels (Eminem, Roadrunner United, etc)

I've heard nothing off the album yet (although I do of course intend to buy it asap) but by reading some of the lyrics I gotta admit... Maynard has regressed a bit... Lateralus and Aenima had awesome lyrics that you could spend a lot of time figuring out what really meant... in short i guess you could say that maynard challenged the intellect on those two albums... 10.000 days on the other hand seems quite straight-forward to me... too straight-forward, really... where's the mysticism and riddles??? again, i haven't heard any of the songs (except a bit of vicarious) so i might be a bit off the track - correct me if i'm wrong!

This is a great song. I love the honesty in "much better you than I". This makes me wonder if these lyrics are maynards actual feelings or if he is calling us all a bunch of sick bastards. I'm thinking it's the latter - he has a tendency to do that. But that's why I love Tool - they point out everything that we as humans do wrong. And these observations are what make them great. I don't care if they are tearing apart my character half the time.

i think he is portraying how people sit and watch the news, reality tv shows, and the like. how the people who make the shows or portray the news finds the 'best' story, and in that sense the 'best' story is always the most tragic. this helps people to gossip and bask in how things play out.
