Covered As: Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds by Elton John
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds by The Hooters
Picture yourself on a boat in a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
and she's gone
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah
Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
that grow so incredibly high
Newspaper taxies appear on the shores
Waiting to take you away
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds
and you're gone
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah
Picture yourself in a train in a station
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah

Song Facts - Show All?
The inspiration for "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" is said to be from a drawing John Lennon's son drew. When he brought it home from school and John asked him what it was, Julian told him it was a drawing of his classmate Lucy -- "in the sky with diamonds." The drawing is shown on wikipedia.

this coming from the guy who listens to Rammstein? yeah shut up. the beatles were not overrated at all. they're the greatest rock band thats ever been, is, and ever will be. that's an undisputable fact, i mean they were bigger then jesus in their time, perhaps still are, is Rammstein? ive never even heard of any of the other bands you listen to.
this song is perfect, the fuzzy lead guitar, the bass line that just walks through the song, the simple, yet no repeticious drumming, the vocal (and harmony) melodies, and the lyrics are incredibly unique.

I'm pretty sure the song is about a drawing done by john's toddler nephew named 'lucy in the sky with diamonds' but it was probably something to do with drugs

This song is about LSD. LSD for the people who dont know it is ACID. ACID for people who dont know it is a HEAVY hallucinate makes you see whatever is on your mind. This drug is very hard to OD on but is dangerus cause if you have a bad trip you usaly end up killing yourself if you dont have pople with you. Also this drug kills spinal cord fluid making old timers. this song is deffently from the drug LSD listen to it this bastards are tripin balls probaly like 4 hits of acid. 6 hits of acid in your whole life makes you leagly insane.

to Jacob Vincent... this song is NOT about LSD or any other drug for that matter...
John Lennon's son come home from school one day with a picture he drew and when John asked what it was about he turned and said "Its lucy in the sky with diamonds" ---
also to anyone who read Jacobs "theory" on drugs, i would say that his words are his own belief and if anyone wanted to try acid but was put off by his words... get your own info and be sure your in a good mood when you take it... and you dont see "whatever your thinking of" acid causes sparking of the optic nerve which is what you "see" the rest of the drug plays with ya mind... Cheers, Have a good day
oh yeah PLEASE READ THIS WEBSITE... http://www.talktofra...L/LSD.aspx

I think this song is overrated compared to the other hundreds of beatle songs and i really don't care if its about lsd or not because i'm not going to take some random persons word for it off the internet. none of you knew john lennon or any of the beatles and i don't think its your right to say for fact what the songs about.

It's a trip, it brings you back to the 60s even if you've never been there. Sometimes drugs can bring out the most beautiful songs. Take it for what it is and stop bitching about LSD.

Paul didn't even fucking write the thing, John did. I love Paul, but why are we taking his word on a song he didn't write? Maybe we should listen to the guy who wrote the damn thing - and John says it wasn't about LSD. Shit happens, acronyms can be perceived through any words.

Regardless of the acronyms and whether it stands for that or not (which I doubt) it's one of my all time faves and one of the best songs they've done to date.

Only a truly great song could incite such discussion. This is one of their finest experimental pieces. For those who don't like it - go and enjoy your gone-in-5-minutes bands. To those who are debating the meaning of the song, don't forget that John had a wicked sense of humor and would say things at different times about different songs, all to watch the reaction of both the reporters and the people. He liked to be provocative and used heavy amounts of word play. The song may or may not have been about LSD, but for those of you who actually believe the story about Julian's - his son, by the way - school drawing, more power to you. That's the beauty of music, you can make it say what you want. How about we just enjoy the music as a serious piece of art? What a novel idea!
