Back in school they never taught us what we needed to know
Like how to deal with despair
Or someone breaking your heart
For twelve years I've held it all together
But a night like this is begging to pull me apart
I played it quiet left you deep in conversation
I felt uncool and hung out around the kitchen
I remember I kept thinking that I know you never would
And now I know I want to kill you like only a best friend could
Everyone's caught on to everything you do
(Everyone's caught on to)
As if it happening wasn't enough
I got to go and write a song just to remind myself how bad it sucked
Ignore the sun, covers over my head
Wrote a message on my pillow that says, “Jesse, stay asleep in bed.”
So don't apologize
(I hope you choke and die)
Search your cell for something which to hang yourself
Say you need to pray if you want to go to heaven
Never you what to say when your whole life has gone to hell
Everyone's caught on to everything you do
(Everyone's caught on to)
And everyone's caught on to everything you do
Everyone's caught on to
(And I can't let you let me down again)
(I can't let you let me down again)
So, is that what you call a getaway?
Tell me what you got away with
'Cause I've seen more spine on a jellyfish
And I've seen more guts in eleven-year-old kids
Have another drink and drive yourself home
I hope there's ice on all the roads
And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt
And again when your head goes through the windshield
Is that what you call tact?
You're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back
So let's end this call
And end this conversation
And is that what you call a getaway?
Well tell me what you got away with
'Cause you left the frays from the ties you severed
When you said best friends means friends forever
Is that what you call a getaway?
Tell me what you got away with
Cause I've seen more spine on a jellyfish
I've seen more guts in eleven-year-old kids
Have another drink and drive yourself home
I hope there's ice on all the roads
And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt
Again when your head goes through the windshield
Everyone's caught on to everything you do
(Everyone's caught on to)
I can't let you let me down again.
I can't let you let me down again.
Everyone's caught on to everything you do
(Everyone's caught on to)
I can't let you let me down again.
I can't let you let me down again.

the singer from tbs slept with jesse's gf, alot of their songs have similar lyrics. Kinda like responses to each others songs

I was listening to 'No I in Team' by TBS a few days after I heard Seventy Times 7 and I wondered about why they both had the same line so thanks for the explanation. Oh well I still say Seventy Times 7 is the better out of the two.

"I was listening to 'No I in Team' by TBS a few days after I heard Seventy Times 7 and I wondered about why they both had the same line so thanks for the explanation. Oh well I still say Seventy Times 7 is the better out of the two."

It is because Seventy Times Seven is about Jesse being mad at John and There's No I In Team is about John saying his stuff. They are best friends or were i dont know but they both wrote songs during that mishap.

It's not because they were mad at each other, i think i remember someone telling me it was because they were friends back in the day [and still are] and the same girl screwed them both over or something.

John (formerly of TBS): Well, it’s a long story. Basically the story behind that is a situation, which involved myself and Jesse from Brand New. While the songs were released at different times, they were both written around the same time about the same situation. Both songs are directly related “Seventy Times 7” is Jesse’s point of view and “There’s No ‘I’ In Team” is mine. They’re not necessarily opposing points of view, just from our personal perspective. The words “Best friends means friends forever” from “Seventy Times 7” was originally from our song so then we took the line from their song. It was a little devious on our part, I’d admit. We all think Brand New is an awesome band and we love them, it was a personal situation between me and Jesse and the songs just happened to result from it.

Jesse has the patent to these lyrics, TBS singer stole but its all good. The chorus is probably one of the best chorus' ever written in music history. Its hits you so hard that you can surely relate it to someone you know or an experience you've been through. BEAUTIFUL AND PRICELESS. best lyrics i know.

It wasn't fucking stolen, they did it on purpose. The bands did this on purpose. Did you not even read the thing Martinnn403 posted. I mean even if you didn't know the story that would explain it.

This song is so unbelivably beautiful... It has reminded me of so many situations in my life just like every other BN song that has helped me make it through my life. Jesse is my supreme god and I don't even know the guy but just through his lyrics and music and can tell he has the most genuine and beautiful souls in existince.

It's really a shame all of you care way too much about this, and everyother band's personal lives. This song was written from the heart, enough stated. It's a good song, one of their best. There is no need to poke and prode into a situation THAT IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. I can't tell you how much I deteste people that consistantly ask about this situation, good lord if you want to know so bad be a true fan and go to one of their concerts, scout them out after the show and ask them about it. I'm sure you'll get a sincere response in some way similar to that of my own.

wakingdown: You can't just cast stereotypes over BN fans. I happen to know it's about the John/Jesse/Jesse's ex story but I don't got dissing other BN fans. It's people like you that plague the music scene and cause so many genres to be made and so much distance between different tastes in music

alright guys. lets just chill out. this is a killer song written about a time that was obviously pretty harsh for all parties. but if songs like this result from cheating on significant others, i dont see a problem with cheating anymore... infact... i think more people should cheat on boyfreinds/girlfreinds just so there will be more songs like thisss

haha, ppl lets not get technical...this song is the equivalent to TBS's "There's no I in team" (lyrically speaking)...i think the two are interlinked, seeing that jesse is the original bassist from TBS..but thank god he moved to Brand New, cuz if he didnt, there'd be no sean cooper, and then....no straylight run...that'd be terrible, god why do i have this much time on my hands? great song none the less, i like it alot, hands down Your Favorite Weapon beats Deja Entendu (subtracting Quiet Things, Sic Transit, Play Crack the Sky, and Guernica) lol , but yeah, good song
