Song's meaning: "Lyrically it's about anonymity between people. Growing up in Aberdeen, a place where everybody knows each other and because it's small, everyone knows everything about what's happening in your life, or at least they think they do, they're very quick to judge you based on someone else's opinion. So when you see someone in the street, you're never totally sure if they are going to acknowledge you, it's just the kind of shit I can do without."

- Fake Blood
Song's meaning: "The story behind this came about when a friend was cutting themselves and being very open about. I'd seen some other friends do a similar thing, where they would cut themselves and go out in the cold with short sleeves on, so everyone can see. Anyway, they'd been calling us up saying they were going to hurt themselves because they were upset. So we arranged to meet the person to speak about what was happening, to try and help them, but they were smiling and laughing about our concern, as if to be happy about getting the attention. I felt sickened and used by this."

Song's meaning: "It's about just drifting apart from someone you really liked because of various reasons, finding someone else and then realizing that the first person still really likes you and there's a bunch of stupid shit that comes from that."

Song's meaning: "The lyrics are basically my frustrations with society's standards and ignorance when it comes to using animal products, I'm tired of people trying to tell me that 'it's natural' to murder and rape animals and I think it's another form of racism... I'm sure 100 years ago the same people would have justified the slavery of Africans."

As quoted by Jordan Billie, "it's talking about our foreign policy and the way that America takes exactly what America wants. A giant, gold AK-47 is a perfect image of where America is at in the world today."

Quoting Erik Engstrom, "This is the only song I wrote the lyrics to ever. It was about a girl that I had a crush on in 10th grade and I asked her to the 'Disco Dance.' Haha. She acted excited, then we met up and I paid for her to get in and literally didn't see her for the rest of the night."

The meaning of this song as quoted by Nathan Winneke (the vocalist):
"When I was little there was this one day where I came home with my mom and we lived in these apartments and my grandma lived in the one below us and we saw that our window was opened upstairs and the screen was taken out and we called the cops but before they got there I got antsy and wanted a toy and my mom wanted something (I think her purse or something) and we went up there with my aunt and my aunt and mom had knives and while they checked every room I went into my room and got my light brite and then we left and as we got to the bottom of the stairs this dude came out of our house and was like eleven feet tall and he had a knife and he just looked at us and ran away and my mom screamed, "Oh my god, he must have been in Nathan's closet!" and that scared me really bad.
Then two years later my mom woke me up in the middle of the night and handed me a giant knife (I was like ten) and we stood in the front room back to back with knives and you could hear somebody heavy breathing coming from the VENTS of all fucking places and we sat in the middle of the front room all night with knives until morning."

The Paper Chase
- ...The Unopened Email To God
This song ends the album with a repeated phrase ("I hate the sun. The sun is uncontrollable… unforgiving. With the sun, you can shape and sculpt reality."). On the CD version, this whole phrase is repeated for thirty minutes or so, but for the vinyl version, there is an intentional skip put in the record so that “I hate the sun” is repeated forever.

Sea Of Treachery
- And The Angels Were Silent
Quoting the lyricist, "This song serves a dual lyrical purpose. Primarily, it expresses my distaste for those who use fundamentalist religious views to further certain interests, while seemingly ignoring many original principles of their faith. Particularly, I touch upon how fundamentalists vehemently oppose gay rights in the name of their faith while concurrently opposing the welfare system. Many of these people (not all, by any stretch of the imagination) show a complete disregard for the charity and compassion exemplified by Jesus Christ. The second portion of this song touched on my issues with faith at the time I wrote this song. I feel as though the aforementioned fundamentalist groups were such a turnoff for me that I felt incapable of having faith. Obviously since, I have reconciled my faith and hold strong religious beliefs. To this day, I don't condone any of the views held by the fundamentalists that I touch upon in this song."

Sea Of Treachery
- I Never Was A White Picket Fence Sorta Guy
Quoting the lyricist, "As angsty as this song sounds, it is simply an anthemic declaration that, while my goals aren't traditional or even understandable to many, I feel as though staying positive and cherishing the truly special moments and relationships in life and striving to achieve your true ambitions is admirable."
Sea Of Treachery
- On The Wings Of Pegasus
Quoting the lyricist, "This is probably the most overtly political song on the record. It expresses my complete opposition to the use of capital punishment. On a base level, killing people to show them that killing is wrong is one of the most fundamentally nonsensical things a government could possibly do. Beyond that, it explains how I feel as though capital punishment is used as a means of a government overreaching its power and attempting to establish dominance over its people. The United States is one of the very few industrialized nations that still practices capital punishment in any form at all."

Sea Of Treachery
- Purging Of The Wicked
Quoting the lyricist, "This song, broadly, conveys the horrors of genocide. More specifically, it reflects my horror at the West's complete inaction on behalf of genocide victims in Darfur and Rwanda. Every day, while you worry about the new Sidekick coming out, or what show to go to, or how many picture comments you have, women and young girls are terrified of being raped by militiamen and subsequently disowned from their families and young boys as young as 5 and 6 are forced to wage all-out war on both sides."

Sea Of Treachery
- Raise The Banner
Quoting the lyricist, "This song is about my opposition to violence in any form. It has always been a strong belief of mine, which is now reaffirmed by my Quaker religion. Intolerance, ignorance, prejudice, and hatred are all evils of a society with misplaced priorities and morals."
Sea Of Treachery
- The Eyes Of The Ranger
Quoting the lyricist, "This is a very personal song about being cheated on in a long-term relationship. I forgave the person for what they had done, and wrote and recorded this song while we were still together. To this day, I hold no animosity towards that person."
Sea Of Treachery
- Their Own Hell
Quoting the lyricist, "This song is one to be more loosely interpreted. It is essentially about taking moments of weakness in the past and using them as the foundation for becoming mature and making adult decisions. Demons don't have to haunt you forever if you face them and learn from your mistakes."

Wings Of Scarlet
- Before The Great Collapse
Song's meaning: "Not everyone can believe in an afterlife and some find no redemption through death. Maybe these people are hedonists because they seek pleasure and enjoyment during life, maybe not. When pushed to the brink and faced with the only life we will live, we have to make choices about what we do and with whom we spend it. How we share ourselves. This song is about a man who chose to share his whole life with a woman. They grew old. She died. He never shared his life with the god who supposedly took her and he never will. His strength lies in life, in love, and not in the vain hope of family reunions in the sky."

Wings Of Scarlet
- Cast Carbon Lies
Song's meaning: "We've all had times in our lives when we thought we knew everything. We look back and laugh at how wrong we were. It is because of this that we must call to mind the atrocities committed in the name of Objective Truth. Whether through claims to religious virtue or for the sake of scientific 'progress,' we all like to believe that our way of doing things is the only right way. On a larger scale, we like to think that our way of living is the only 'correct' and only 'human' way to live. Many fail to realize that humanity lived successfully for hundreds of millennia without feeling the need to clear-cut forests, plant crops, divide labor, enslave each other, construct hierarchies, and wage war. And of course we believe that ours is the most advanced/perfect way for people to exist and with each generation we further separate ourselves from our naturally selected relationships with each other and this planet. This song is a rejection of ideology that turns people against each other by dividing the individual against their own experiences and the rest of the world. The same way we examine our personal history we must examine the history of our culture and determine for ourselves if this is the way we wish to continue living."

Wings Of Scarlet
- Killing Tomorrow
Song's meaning: "Many of us have been touched by suicide. The fragility of human life and the fragility of the human spirit are painfully apparent in this act. As many of us who have lost a loved one, there are millions more who have considered suicide. Teen suicide rates are climbing all over the country and world. In a society where quiet acts of desperation go unnoticed and individuals feel like they have little or no control over their lives, the only way they feel they can exercise their freewill is to end their life. We have little to add but our confused and mixed feelings. If one can choose her/his destiny then they are free to act, but suicide defuses one persons suffering among many and only amplifies the pain. Live for the moment, Live for yourself, and re-claim your life as your own."

Wings Of Scarlet
- Sacred Ground
Song's meaning: "Christianity was forced onto the indigenous people of 'Europe' through genocide and assimilation in much the same way the people of Europe forced it on other indigenous peoples around the globe. The history of monotheist imperialism reads more like a cycle of child abuse, continued with each generation. This song is against 'the way, the truth, and the light' when it does not recognize other ways, other truths, and goes about extinguishing other lights. This song is not about the teachings of Jesus, it's about oppression and finding freedom in whatever you hold sacred in your life."
Wings Of Scarlet
- Set The Air Afire
Song's meaning: "Essentially this song is about destructive relationships. Two people sticking together through 'thick and thin' may sound romantic and heroic but it is just stupid when there are millions of other people in the world you could be happier with."

Wings Of Scarlet
- We Scream Hope
Song's meaning: "'Man fucks woman' subject-verb-object. When you do a word search on the internet for the word 'rape' you find not guidance or counseling help, but mostly you find pornography sites containing 'rape images' that are intended to arouse or stimulate the viewer. How some people become 'stimulated' at the thought of violating another person is beyond anything we can imagine. The most recent statistics tell us that 24-30% of women in America will be raped in their lifetime. An additional 18% will have to fend off a rape attempt. These numbers really don't mean anything to you until it happens to someone you love. Growing up with this sort of abuse is unimaginable, yet there are many strong sisters and mothers who have overcome and learned to live with this experience. You cannot treat another person as an object."

Wings Of Scarlet
- Wings Of Scarlet - Angels Bring Life
Song's meaning: "This song is not about creatures that fly around outside or above you who can either help you or hurt you, it's about real people that you see everyday who you cannot imagine your life without. Our momentary existence and uniqueness is what makes us and everything around us sacred. Our relationships are temporary. Our interaction is unique to the places and settings that appear to weave in and out of our lives but we are forever a part of. No alien creature can understand this. It takes a human."

Wings Of Scarlet
- Wings Of Scarlet - Overcome
Song's meaning: "A lot of people are stuck in a perpetual state of childhood. Not in the innocent/playful childhood, but confined to a petty life where no change is possible. There are a lot of mistakes in our lives, but a lot of fun times too. Learn, play, and remain dynamic. Don't let the past hold you back from enjoying the present. You may grow apart from other people but those people made you who you are and that cannot be removed. Accept it and grow."
